Pets are family. A custom pet portrait is a way to honor them and include them in your home. Using your photos, I work to capture your pet’s likeness and his or her unique personality with my heirloom colored pencils drawings or mixed media works.

COLORED PENCIL PORTRAITS
These pieces are created entirely with colored pencil and focus on the details. Because of that, they are very time intensive. I recommend having several photos for me to work from, but one really nice, clear photo that you love.
A 5″ x 7″ portrait starts at $195. These pieces can be mounted on a cradled wood board with painted edges and varnished for a ready-to-hang portrait. If you prefer a more traditional look, your portrait can be matted in a white or black mat and ready for you to frame .
MIXED MEDIA PORTRAITS
Mixed media portraits are available in several styles. Your pet is created primarily with colored pencils, but I use acrylic washes as a starting point and for finishing highlights and details. These are also available with a simple gradient background if you prefer.
A 5″ x 7″ or 6″ x 6″ mixed media portrait starts at $110. These pieces can be mounted on a cradled wood board with painted edges and varnished for a ready-to-hang portrait. If you prefer a more traditional look, your portrait can be matted in a white or black mat and ready for you to frame .

Custom pieces don’t have to be a pet. I can create a piece based on your favorite animal. Or even a favorite flower or a photo of your wedding bouquet. Sometimes it can be just an idea. I am happy to talk with you about your ideas and see if my skills are a good fit for your custom project.
THE PROCESS

I’ll need to see your photo(s) in order to give you a quote, so please include them in your email. I’ll email you back with additional questions and samples so I can get a good idea of what you’re looking for.
Choose your style.
I have several styles that I work in including realistic colored pencil drawings, art nouveau inspired mixed media works and mid-century modern inspired mixed media works. I can include specific colors, flowers, and items of meaning, so be sure to include that in your email.
Choose your size.
The size of the piece is up to you and your budget. Popular sizes are 5″ x 7″ and 8″ x 10″.
Choose your finish.
Works can be mounted on a cradled birch board and varnished for a finished piece that doesn’t have to be framed OR works can be left unmounted so that you can use a traditional frame.
Sign a contract.
Once we have the details figured out, I’ll send you a quote and a contract. 50% of the total is due initially to reserve your spot on my work list. Commissions take approximately 4 weeks to complete, depending on my schedule and the size and complexity of your piece.
Progress you can see.
I take photos and email or text them to you at key points in my process as I work on your piece. That way you can have input as I work. When I am finished, I send you a photo of your piece one last time for final approval. If your piece is being mounted, it will then go through my varnish process.
Pick up.
We’ll arrange a time to meet at my studio at Lowe Mill ARTS & Entertainment for pick up. If you are not local to Huntsville, AL, I’ll carefully pack up your piece and ship it to you.
